Old English Cars owner Tony Kipling is an experienced certified mechanic.  Originally from England, he served a traditional 4 year apprenticeship before working at a top Land Rover Dealership in the UK and also at a Rolls Royce specialist.  He has trained at the Land Rover factory in Soilhull, England.

Tony is also a certified Instructor at  the Land Rover Experience Driving School located at The Biltmore Estate in Asheville.

Tony grew up surrounded by vintage and classic vehicles, going to car shows all across Britain, and showing an interest in cars and engines from a very young age.  He has been  involved in off road driving and motor sport both in England and the USA and has owned and restored several Series Land Rovers, Classic Range Rovers, Austin Healey, Mini  and MG vehicles.   He is currently restoring a his own 1965 Jaguar "S" Type.

Jennie Kipling is also from England, she met Tony 18 years ago when they both worked at a Land Rover dealership in Yorkshire.   Her background of administration is a useful addition to the business and she is fully involved in the daily running of Old English Cars, LLC

They married in 1999, chauffeur driven in a 1928 Rolls Royce.

After relocating from England to Western North Carolina several years ago Tony worked at  a local Land Rover dealership where he became well known for his extensive knowledge,  especially of the older Land Rovers,  gearbox and engine repairs.

Both are members of the British Car Club of Western North Carolina, and the Sports Car Club of America.

Tony and Jennie opened Old English Cars LLC in July 2006 after identifying a need in the Asheville area for an independent technician to work on older Land Rovers and other classic British Cars.

Cars had always been a hobby, after getting so many requests to work on other people's cars, opening the business became the obvious thing to do.

Now, two years on they are happily building on a successful business which is growing beyond expectation thanks to good old fashioned values, a loyal returning customer base and many word-of-mouth referals.

Old English Cars was featured as the Small Business of the week in the Asheville Citizen Times in March 2007 and also a 2 page color spread in the November 2007 issue of the international LAND ROVER MONTHLY magazine.

1967 MGB Restoration (2003)

In 1974 this MGB GT was put away in a basement with engine trouble. After almost 30 years it was advertised for sale in the local paper and we bought it.  Before re-painting we totally stripped the car to achieve the best possible results. It was re-painted in it's original Old English White. This picture was taken just before we refitted the trim and glass.

The engine bay was in bad condition, we removed the engine and totally rebuilt it, the engine bay was stripped and painted with the rest of the car.

While the body was at the paint shop I worked on the engine and it was ready to be fitted when the car came home.  I was still working full time so everything was done at weekends.

The finished car - 1967 MGB - stunning car, a pleasure to drive.

We reluctantly sold it to buy the race car - you can see photos of our race team by clicking the link at the top of the page.

Our lovely 1964 Series II Land Rover

This was our restoration project in 2002, when finished it was a very eyecatching vehicle on and off-road!

Now, in our brand new workshop we are very happy working on people's treasured classic cars, treating each one with the same care as if it were our own.
